Each year, I accept up to three interns into an intensive six-month teacher training program designed for aspiring and early-career voice teachers who are committed to building a strong foundation in contemporary vocal pedagogy. This is an educational mentorship and is an unpaid position that is intended to provide the kind of guided training that is often difficult to find outside of CCM graduate programs.

Interns participate in scheduled mentorship sessions as a group focused on the science, artistry, and psychology of voice teaching. Through lectures, discussions, case studies, lesson observations, and guided analysis, interns develop practical teaching skills while gaining a deeper understanding of how the voice works and how to guide students towards their most authentic sound.

Topics may include:

  • Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) pedagogy

  • Vocal anatomy and physiology

  • Acoustics and voice science

  • Registration, mix/ belt coordination

  • Functional voice assessment and troubleshooting

  • Repertoire selection for diverse voices and genres

  • Music psychology and the psychology of learning

  • Trauma-informed teaching practices

  • Ethics, communication, and studio professionalism

  • Working with singers across different ages, abilities, and goals

  • Lesson sequencing and curriculum development

  • Billing and business operations

Interns are encouraged to ask questions, bring in teaching challenges from their own studios, and develop the critical thinking skills necessary to become adaptable, evidence-based educators.

Because this program is highly individualized, only three internship positions are available during each year.
